Bard’s Art, For Kurds the Bard's Art is a traditional basis of their culture, protection
of the language, oral tradition of literature, philosophy and actually a great historical
and political mission. In a close co-operation and with all available instruments
the country of Kurds was occupied. They were treated like strangers in their own
native country and had to struggle alone against the suppression. The Kurdish language
was forbidden! Especially in Northern Kurdistan Kurds had no opportunity to read
or write their language. But nevertheless the Kurdish culture has a great repertoire
of poems, folks- songs, stories, folks-dances, traditional clothing, etc. Kurds could
protect their fundament of culture and bring it to this point thanks to the work
of their Bards. That’s why no power could make the Kurdish culture get lost. The
Kurdish Bards were gadding about Kurdistan; you could find them singing in castles
and palaces, in villages and towns, on mountains and hills, on plain and high countries.
They knew their people well and recognized and foresighted he Kurdish situation very
well. That’s why they simply could raise topics like hidden passions, pains, war
and fights, betrayal, bravery, heroic deeds and blitheness in their songs. In short-
they were able to show the nature of Kurdish life in a very clearly way. They embroidered
the beauteousness of their love in the mountains and hills. Sometimes they beard
great pain just for a kiss of their loves, getting hundred and one thuds on the sole
of their foot. Sometimes they accepted hundred and one year dungeon as a death penalty.
Betimes they were Shal and Qutnî giving up their lives for a lovely waist. Betimes
they fought like heroes against barbarity and repression. By paying heed to the get-togethers
of our Bards one also can observe relevant educative and activating elements in their
songs. Nowadays the Kurds are indebted to the well respected Bards, who saved the
Kurdish culture in times of suppression. For us they are immortal.
